Design and installation of remedial waterproofing system to the bridge link at Fort Dunlop
Project Details
Following leaks to the underground bridge link store area Midland Tanking was commissioned to design and install a remedial waterproofing system to prevent the basement storage areas from flooding. A combination of cementitious (type A) waterproofing systems and cavity drainage membrane (CDM - type B) waterproofing was used. A specially designed curtain hung membrane was applied to the soffit in the offices for additional protection from water ingress.

The project to convert the space under Haselour House to a useable area required detailed negotiation with the local planning authority to preserve what was left of the historic fabric of the sub-structure, along with minimisation of the effects of complicated structural alterations. Negotiations allowed the creation of a new external access staircase and removal of an internal wall and plinths along the sides of the space. The basement was de-watered and the floor lowered under careful supervision of our structural engineers. All the orginal oak ceiling lintles were severely rotted and required replacement, again under cafeful structural supervision. A full cavity drainage membrane system was installed to permanently keep the space dry, and a comprehnsive high quality refurbishment has now created a spectacular new living area for the owners.

Structural waterproofing repairs to the sub-basement

Following the fire at the museum in 2003 (click here for more details ) the museum suffered from repeated flooding in the sub basement levels. After two failed attempts to stop the leaks by local contractors the project's structural engineers contacted us for advice and a proposals to stop the constant leaks. After our further consultation with concrete industry experts we installed a two layer waterproofing system which successfully stemmed the flow of water. Because of the huge potential for losses to conference facilities and trade from any further leaks, we also installed a failsafe battery operated pump should the primary waterproofing systems ever fail during a power cut.
